February 2025 Patreon Painted Papers Timelapse
Share
Every month on Patreon, I provide these painted collage papers that align with the theme for that month. The theme for February 2025 is "Together, We Make a Beautiful Pattern", and you will notice that the color palette of these papers match that collection. These papers can be used in any way that you currently use decorative papers, and I wanted to show you all how I create them and give you a little idea of what was in my head as I was illustrating each of them. If you're interested in getting the pages to download, then head over to the IHPFY Patreon and grab these plus so much more.
- The first page you see me painting is a bit different from my traditional painted papers that I have been doing here on Patreon. Normally, I don't use multiple layers because I try to just illustrate these as closely to paint (pen) and paper as possible. This time, though, I had some great ideas that I wanted to be certain would translate well in space (like the lettering pieces). I love drawing flowers and leaves. So, instead of getting them in the sticker collection, I did them in the papers. This page felt the most personal. It felt more like something I was creating to be framed versus a typical collage paper that you craft with. I liked this, and you may be seeing more of it.
- The second page is full of quilting squares. This seemed like a no-brainer. I felt like I had to give you a sheet that felt like a quilt given the theme for this month. I used the squares that I created for the sticker collection, and then I added some more for variety. So, this page is also not very typical of my normal "painted" pages. There is a "quilt flower, "quilt heart", and some abstract designs that I thought resembled pieces of fabric that would be sewn together. You may have recognized the heart and flower from my February 2025 Bujo setup.
- Two days later, I finished the third page. When I started I had the two diagonal lines, and the three "lights". My mind went to Garrett Morgan, the African American inventor who created the three-way traffic light. It was after I colored the circles for the "traffic light" that I realized that the two diagonal lines looked like power lines. My mind was finished creating though. I couldn't figure out what else to draw to tie the ideas together. I started drawing anyway, and that's when I started just letting the pen guide me with those abstract motifs. By the time I finished that side, I realized that it looked like graffiti. The other side is filled with love and flowers. It made me think of the love and beauty in the brownstone neighborhoods that I visited in Washington D.C. and New York. All I could think about was the beauty and strength of a rose growing through concrete. 🥀
I used brushes from Mariam Poppins and some Procreate stamp brushes that I created a few years ago that I never put on sale.
